MERITS

Energy storage system
Technology of solid-state sorption systems
ARES contributed to the project More Effective use of Renewables Including compact seasonal Thermal energy Storage, MERITS for short. This was an international consortium to develop an energy storage system between industry and universities. The consortium consisted of TNO, VITO, TECNALIA, Fraunhofer ISE, Ulster University, University of Lleida, Mostostal, GDC Group limited and de Beijer RTB. The latter is now ARES. The work was done within the FP7-framework. In this project we demonstrated the excellent performance of a solid state sorption system. A pilot set-up was built to demonstrate its functioning in various locations in the Netherlands, Spain and Poland in successful experiments.
